Come to improve your English.

Leave with the confidence to use it.

Why We Talk

I started The English Circle because I believe the best way to grow in a language isn’t just by learning more of it, but by using what you already know. This group isn’t about teaching English from scratch—it’s about helping you gain confidence in the English you already have. Through real conversation—not lessons—we practice speaking, listening, and connecting in a relaxed, supportive space.

I’m originally from Dallas, Texas, and I lived in the U.S. for over 45 years before moving to Finland, where I’ve been based for nearly a decade now. Along the way, I’ve met so many smart, kind, talented people from all over the world—many of them speak English quite well, but still hesitate to use it. Not because they don’t know it, but because they don’t feel comfortable speaking it.

The English Circle is here to change that.

It’s not just for native Finnish speakers—it’s for anyone who wants to feel more confident using English in daily life, work, or social settings.

That’s what this group is for.

This isn’t school. I’m not grading you. I’m here to help you speak more freely, more naturally, and with more confidence. The English Circle is a place to practice, to connect, and to get used to thinking in English out loud—with real people, in real time.

The group is starting small and growing slowly. We use free tools like WhatsApp and Substack to stay connected and keep things simple. Eventually, I hope we’ll invite guest speakers or even host local community projects. We also plan to meet in person about once a month—gathering at local cafés or restaurants to practice English together and engage with the wait staff in real, everyday conversations. These meetups will be open to current members as well as anyone who’s ever been part of the group.

But for now?
We talk.
